China's Liaoning General Aviation Academy has announced the success of the first flight of a four-seat RX4A electric aircraft in the northeastern city of Shenyang.
The plane developed by the academy was 8.4 meters long and weighed 1,200 kilograms, while its wingspan was 13.5 meters, Xinhua news agency reported.
The aircraft, which can fly for about an hour and a half in flight, is 300 kilometers.
Zhao Tienan, vice president of the academy, said the plane uses carbon fiber materials, which are very light and can take off from hard farmland and a cobbled road.
"There are high expectations in the market for this aircraft," said Zhao, adding that it could be used in a number of areas including short-distance transport, pilot training, tourism, aerial photography and aerial mapping.
