Reducing port allowances on Syrian agricultural exports by 75 percent

Economy Today

The Economic Committee of the Council of Ministers endorsed the proposal of the Union of Syrian Chambers of Agriculture to extend the decision to reduce the allowance for agricultural products of Syrian origin exported through Syrian ports (Tartous and Lattakia) for one year.

According to the Prime Minister's Facebook page, the rate of reduction of allowances is 75% of the port tariff set by the Prime Ministerial Decree for 2015, and for a year from 1 October 2019 until the corresponding month of 2020.

The Economic Commission has already extended the decision to reduce the allowances of agricultural products exported of Syrian origin by 75% of the port tariff set by the government decision No. 3697 for 2015, and for a year from 1 October 2018.

According to Resolution 3697, allowances for imported goods destined for domestic consumption, and exported goods of Syrian origin, shall be calculated in Syrian Pounds.

In 2016, the Council of Ministers also approved a 75% reduction in port allowances on agricultural products exported from Lattakia Port, with the aim of encouraging export, after reducing port handling and port charges by 50% for citrus exports, beginning September 2016.

The Ministry of Transport has issued several decisions regarding the exemption of Syrian agricultural exports from their allowances at Syrian ports by 50%.
