Member of the People's Assembly: Housing needs 400 years to cover the need for housing locally
Economy Today:
MP Mojibur Rahman al-Dandan said that the Ministry of Public Works and Housing is planning to deliver 5,000 apartments in 2020, while 2,250,000 apartments are required across Syria, meaning that it takes 400 years to cover the need for housing locally.
Al-Dandan told Melody Radio that there is a problem in housing and the impossibility of securing an apartment for young people because the average prices of apartments in Damascus exceed those of neighboring countries and European countries.
A few weeks ago, Housing Minister Suhail Abdullatif said housing was a dream and an urgent demand, and that what the Housing Corporation had accomplished did not cover the real need for housing, promising to provide housing for the 80% disabled or with an honor card.
On the project of dissolving the General Union for Housing Cooperation, Al-Dandan pointed out that it is against the Constitution, calling for its fortification instead of its abolition. He also proposed the establishment of a housing cooperative bank to support housing associations by providing suitable housing at affordable prices for the citizen.
The parliamentarian said that corruption in the case found in the Union Fidel on the shortening of the "Ministry of Housing" in its oversight role, stressing the need for legislation to be in the public interest and not for people, and activate and develop legal legislation for real estate developers and secure land ready for housing.
Housing recently submitted to the parliament a bill to dissolve the housing union. Therefore, the Committee on Constitutional and Legislative Affairs of the People's Assembly held a meeting in mid-October 2019, during which it discussed the possibility of considering the constitutionality of the bill.
The "Ministry of Housing" at the time explained the reasons for the draft resolution to dissolve the "General Union for Housing Cooperation", including the performance of its branches in the provinces, which the ministry described as negative and weak and disabled, and not to carry out the roles and tasks assigned to them.
As a result of the controversy that occurred after the introduction of the draft law and questioning the rights of members of housing associations, Assistant Minister of Housing Abdel Qader Fahim, confirmed that the project is only related to the dissolution of the Union and its branches in the provinces and associations will remain, but their relationship will become directly with the Ministry
